Mental Health Care Tips For Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship is an incredibly adventurous journey.

The journey is filled with highs and lows, obstacles and successes, rise and falls and finally the expertise.

It can be a very lonely journey and most of the time, you have to show up with a smile regardless of how you feel.

Entrepreneurship involves taking care of others first and putting yourself last. From serving customers, building partnerships, receiving calls from the bank, meeting with lawyers, handling employee matters and other stakeholders such as suppliers, debtors and creditors. Hence, the entrepreneur’s mind is trained to always be on the move, solve every problem and figure out new ways to get things done.

Truth is… it can be overwhelming.

This means that entrepreneurs have no tendency to slow down and this causes anxiety, sleeping problems and are more likely to snap at anyone.

As an entrepreneur, I know this too well. Additionally, I’ve dated entrepreneurs and I can testify that we really need to slow down and take care of our emotional and mental health.

I developed a self care routine that has worked tremendously well for me and enabled me to operate my businesses with a calm and rational mindset. Lack of this self care routine caused me to lose a business deal. That was a loud wake up call to always prioritize my mental and emotional health care.

So today, let’s discuss some great self care tips that can help entrepreneurs serve others effectively.

Meditation

A 15-20 minute moment of silence can calm your spirit and mind.

As an entrepreneur, your internal atmosphere really matters when going about your day. How you feel on the inside determines how you perceive others and how you make them feel.

In order to find solutions to business related problems, you need more than intellect. You need insight and rationale.

When your spirit is grounded, emotions are centered and the brain’s performance is increased.

Practice this every morning before you switch on your phone and watch how amazingly you conduct your day.

Singing in the shower

This sounds funny, right?

Well guess what….? Singing to your favorite tune as water drips all over your body is very therapeutic and elevates your mood.

You can also tell ‘Alexa’ or ‘Siri’ to play your favorite music while taking a shower. This will send positive vibes to your brain while reducing anxiety and stress levels.

I do this every morning and let’s just say that my day is always pumped!

While in the shower, you’ll hear me singing to my favorites:

  • I am blessed by Mr. Vegas
  • I feel good by James Brown
  • Blessing me by Banky W
  • I’m legit by Ciara and Nicki Minaj
  • Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj

Go ahead and create your shower playlist, it gets you energized for the day!

Sleep

As an entrepreneur, you’re always making critical decisions on everything or you’re in the decision-making committee.

Some decisions need time, patience and proper calculation.

A nap or a good night sleep comes in handy.

Quality restful sleep has great health benefits such as:

  • Organizes your thoughts and aids in decision making
  • Repairs worn out tissues especially in case of a migraine
  • Calms your mind and heart
  • Lowers stress levels

A good sleep is not a sign of laziness as society has defined it rather it contributes to your holistic growth and improves your performance level.

Prayer

An entrepreneur is a leader who dares to walk alone and leave a trail for others to follow.

This path can be very lonely and filled with uncertainty.

But guess what?… You are not alone in this. There is always a Higher Being watching over you, guiding you and providing for you.

As a visionary, create time to seek guidance from The Almighty.

It will give you a sense of relief and gainful wisdom.

Exercise

Working out not only gives you the sexy back and abs you desire but it also relieves you of stress and anxiety.

Negative energy weighs down the body while positive energy gets it ready to roll!
When your body is in motion through physical activity, it releases negative energy while activating dopamine levels in the mind and creating space for positive thoughts.

After a workout session, you’ll feel motivated and energetic hence lowering stress levels.

So lift those weights, get on your jogging routine or do those sit-ups.. they are good for your mental and emotional health!

Art time

This is fun, mentally stimulating and relaxing!

Art time taps into what you enjoy doing.

Create time to paint, draw, write, sing, dance, play board games, word games, puzzle games, playstation, travel, hike, play dress up or try new make-up.

It takes off the pressure and releases your happy hormones.

My art time involves exploring new places, adventurous hikes, karaoke nights (which I end up getting booed off the stage ), dancing to loud music or doing my make-up and dressing up. They always get me high on positivity.

Gratitude

At the beginning of every year, I get an empty jar and fill it with notes of good things that happen to me every month then read them at the end of the year to see what a great year I had.

Alternatively, a gratitude journal can come in handy.

The beauty about gratitude is that it elevates your mood, creates a positive attitude towards life and obstacles.

Moreover, a grateful entrepreneur is a patient and great problem solver.

Affirmations

As an entrepreneur, how you speak to yourself, about yourself and your business is directly proportional to your success.
Reciting affirmations every morning before your day begins, has proven to increase performance level and most importantly attract more opportunities.
Self-confidence and positive self-perception are vital traits that build your enthusiasm and make people want to buy from you.

Pro tip:
Customers/Clients enjoy purchasing from a business owner who speaks well of their business, enjoys serving them and believes in the business.

What are your affirmations? Share in the comments. We would love to know.
